Heater safety hazard experiment: sounding the winter safety alarm bell

  • ReleaseTime: 2024-12-23
Information

Recently, the Special Service Brigade of Wuhan Fire Rescue Brigade and the Special Service Second Station Fire Department conducted a series of heater safety experiments to enhance citizens' awareness of the safety hazards of heaters. The experimental results were shocking.
At the experimental site, firefighters first tested a common household heater. This heater has a power of 900 watts, and shortly after being powered on, its surface temperature rapidly rises. When a regular piece of toilet paper is brought close to the heater, it ignites and instantly turns into ashes in just 3 seconds. Subsequently, the firefighters covered the heater with a towel, and within less than a minute, the towel was burned through a large hole, emitting thick smoke.
What is even more worrying is that in the experiment of simulating the tilting of a heater, when the heater is tilted at a certain angle, flammable materials placed near it, such as simulated curtain fabrics, are quickly baked at high temperatures to smoke and catch fire. In another testing stage, when some small objects similar to hair or fibers come into contact with the heating parts of the heater, they are quickly ignited and the fire spreads rapidly.
Firefighters pointed out that these experiments fully exposed the huge safety risks that may exist during the use of heaters. Especially in winter, if residents use the heater for a long time and do not pay attention to maintaining a safe distance from flammable materials, or fail to detect the malfunction of the heater in a timely manner, it is highly likely to cause fire accidents.
The fire department hereby reminds the general public that when purchasing a heater, it is necessary to choose a product with the 3C certification mark and strictly follow the instructions for use. In daily use, it is necessary to ensure that there are no flammable or combustible materials within one meter of the heater, and to regularly inspect the heater. If any abnormal situation is found, the heater should be immediately stopped and professional maintenance personnel should be contacted. At the same time, necessary fire-fighting equipment should be equipped at home to cope with sudden fire situations and ensure the safety of one's own life and property.
